What I've Learned From 18 Years of Mostly Failing
This isn't a pity post. When you consider that my goal for the past 16 years was $10K per month and I NEVER reached it, I am mostly failing. 😆
Many valuable lessons have risen from the ashes, and that makes this a significant period of my life that is worth unpacking.
I sat at my desk this morning, coffee and pen in hand. I wrote 21 things I’ve learned through failing forward.
Let’s check them out:
You can’t fix problems by throwing money at them.
You can’t help people by throwing money at them.
Buying “methods” is worthless.
Any grunt can make money online, but the big bucks come from selling.
Content is king.
Consistency is the king’s army.
By the time someone is creating a course or a YouTube video about a way to make money online, it’s already saturated.
99% of “gurus” aren’t gurus.
Guru is a curse word.
If you have ZERO desire to create video content, any time spent trying to create video content is wasted.
Most ways to make money online aren’t sustainable long-term. You’re constantly pivoting.
Be flexible.
Networking is useful, but building an audience is better.
Aim small. You can accomplish everything you want and need with a small following.
95% of online tools are a money-grab. The other 5% are high-value, low-cost, must-haves. For example, Canva!
Shiny Object Syndrome and Imposter Syndrome will keep you failing.
Success is 99% failure and 1% winning.
Writing is everything even when it doesn’t seem like it.
Begin every day with silence, coffee, pen, paper, and prayer.
Most people find success faster than me and that’s okay.
Your one-of-a-kind perspective, journey, and experience are immensely valuable. You already have a marketable product! Sell it!
I probably could have gone on, but I feel like this is a well-rounded and concise list.
What can you do with it?
Contemplate it.
How many of these lessons have you learned? Have you learned different ones?
I’d really like to hear about them in the comments! I mean I really would! You never know who you’re helping out there by sharing the things I mentioned in #21 above!
Feel free to steal as much of this list as you want. If you resonate with it, use it to your advantage, share it with your people, expound upon it.
Most of all, share it with someone you think will resonate with it.
UPDATE
The Discord community exists!
I’m creating the channels and setting up the framework. Expect a link by the end of the week. I can’t wait to chat with you!
This will be a free place to ask questions, share ideas, make friends, and get feedback on the things you’re working on.
I’m so excited.
The membership site exists!
This is where I’ll be sharing my expertise and providing access to resources to help you in your writing journey.
Rather than create a course or multiple courses, I will pack the information in the member site and you can access everything at your convenience.
Memberships will include lifetime access to certain channels inside the community. Don’t worry, I’m not putting all the good stuff behind a paywall, just the time-consuming, personal stuff.
I can’t wait to show you what I have to offer and pack in all the value I can.
No membership tier will exceed $9.99 per month.
If you have questions, holler at me in the comments.
