Rethinking the Norm: Why 'Best Practices' Aren't Always Best
Did you ever spend half your life learning everything you could about something like oh, self-publishing or writing online, and you're still trying to gain traction? Me too!
It seems like everything you do comes with a set of “best practices”. Do A, B, C, and money and popularity will rain from the sky!
Listen, I’ve learned and adhered to this stuff for many different endeavors:
WordPress
Self-Publishing
Social Media
Writing Online
Best practices will quickly land you in the sea of obscurity.
Why?
Because you’re doing the same thing everyone else is doing.
Think about that for minute.
As of April 2024, 5.4 billion people have access to the Internet worldwide. (Source)
If you’re doing the same thing as the other 5.4 billion, how do you expect to stand out?
It ain’t going to be with a best practice, it’s going to be with an original idea.
You know that feeling of excitement you get when you come across a new idea? It’s like inhaling after the rain. It’s a breath of fresh air. It’s inspiring.
This is what you want to capture over and over again.
The days of regurgitating ideas and “best practices” to claim a slice of the Internet pie are over.
In addition to your daily writing habit, you should also have…
A daily thinking habit.
This can even be part of your daily writing habit.
When I get up in the morning to start my day, first things first, COFFEE.
Then I come sit at my desk. I don’t turn on the computer. I pull out my notepad, I flip through my previous ideas, and I jot down anything new that pops in my brain.
I don’t look at my phone.
I don’t turn on the TV.
This is time for me, the silence, and my brain to create ideas.
Some ideas never see the light of day. Some won’t see it for years. Others are so 🔥 that I must begin developing them immediately.
A daily thinking habit combined with a daily writing habit should be the basis of everything you’re doing.
Seriously, try it for 1 month and see if you don’t come up with some fresh ideas that ignite your zeal.
I promise you, it will change everything.
Are you already doing this? I want to hear from you in the comments. When did you start? What changes has it made for you?

I plan to write on all 4 of the topics presented, but I’ll follow your lead on the order.
I’m not sure when you can expect the first one to begin, but I’ll let you know for sure. I haven’t even started yet, so I have to outline and all that.
I’m looking forward to providing that value.
