Please Don't Tell the Spiders
Wrote this over the weekend and thought I'd throw an extra post out there this week. I hope you catch the grief, but also the grin. Love you all.
My parents smile at me from the pictures over the head of my bed.
I cannot smile back for I may fall into the limitless dark canyon that separates us.
So, I avert my eyes instead lest they catch my gaze and see the infinite sadness of their absence.
Please don’t tell the spiders they’ve been given such a wide swath of access to my many charms or to take my lack of harm as an open invitation to explore my slumbering station.
I seethe to think of waking with a hairy leg between my teeth, so please don’t tell the spiders they can hide among the desperate smiles at the head of my bed.
