I Unsubscribed to 2 Email Lists This Morning (So Far) - Here's Why
Excuse me, sir, your funnel is broken.
My inbox was an abomination this morning, so I’m cleaning it out lalala, and I get one of these:
Hi, [your name], I noticed you subscribed to my free email list a while ago. I wanted to tell you about the perks of joining my paid list. [Lists 3 perks] [You should do it because blah blah blah] See you on the inside.
There’s just one problem…I’ve never even received one free email from this person.
Apparently, I saw value in whatever they were doing that made me subscribe in the first place, but nothing since then. They are strangers to me.
This happened TWICE this morning.
Gee, I wonder what I did…
I clicked UNSUBSCRIBE!
You’re slapping me with your paywalls again.
If your sales funnel is working this way, it is broken.
Listen, I know we all want to get paid. This writing thing is kind of our schtick. Okay, it’s a lot our schtick.
I am working on a similar model with my new writing community. However, there are some stark differences:
I don’t have a sales funnel (maybe this why I’m broke). Until I see a sales funnel working in a manner that I can stand behind, I will never have one. Anyway…a toilet is really just a fancy funnel. Don’t flush your potential fans.
I will not start pushing the paid stuff until there is insane value both in the free areas and the paid ones.
The first 100 ACTIVE members of my community will receive the paid membership free for a lifetime and become ambassadors. As ambassadors, I would hope they would push the paid membership for me by discussing the value of it on the server whenever they feel it’s appropriate, but it’s not a requirement. If they’re not compelled to do so, I’m not doing my job.
The Gritty Truth
Things are kind of a mess for me right now in my business. I mean the kind of the mess that makes you feel desperate and hopeless…worthless.
I will create something I can stand behind or continue like this. I can’t stand behind sleazy, worn-out marketing tactics that don’t deliver anything of value.
To my own personal detriment.
So, if you get anything out of these emails or anything I’m doing, I am desperate to hear from you.
Please consider sharing my work with your audience, sharing my posts, joining my community, and supporting what I’m doing.
It won’t cost you anything except a few moments of your time and I’d be eternally grateful to connect with you.
